FACT Scholars Program
To encourage youth formerly in foster care to pursue postsecondary education in Texas, the state provides a free tuition waiver for eligible students to attend state-supported vocational schools, colleges or universities. Foster Angels of Central Texas (FACT) offers a competitive Scholarship Program for qualified students to provide financial assistance for other major expenses not included in the tuition waiver — housing, food, books, transportation, etc. Each FACT Scholar is paired with a mentor who checks in regularly, providing both accountability and encouragement.

The FACT Vocational Scholarship award amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis bespoke to your chosen vocational program. The exact amount a scholar receives depends on factors including financial need and their enrolled credit hours.

NOTE: We recognize that AI is a tool that is becoming widely utilized in daily life. However, we want to read your responses to our essay prompts, not ChatGPT. We will be utilizing a program to analyze responses and the likelihood AI was used, and will not consider applications that have used this tool to complete the essay questions.
Financial need:
We understand that college can be very costly even for students who are able to utilize the tuition and fee waiver. Please share with us the impact receiving this scholarship and financial support would have on your academic performance.
We will not be able to consider applications that do not submit FAFSA/TAFSA applications.
Academic preparedness:
Please share how your high school or previous college experience has prepared you, and how you plan to ensure your academic success.
Maintaining good academic standing is one of the criteria that allows scholars to remain in our program. If you are not currently in good standing, that does not immediately disqualify you from receiving funds, but we want you to share what your plan is to get back on and stay on track for completion.
Fit for the program:
While we will consider applications from students who do not plan to enroll full time, we will prioritize those who will do so. If full time enrollment is not possible for you, please make sure to explain why, as well as what would need to happen in order for you to be able to enroll full time.
We are also implementing an official alumni program for scholars who have exited the program, and will be looking for scholars who are willing to maintain contact with Foster Angels, and support continued improvement in the program.
