College & Career Success

For youth who have experienced foster care, the path to a college degree or trade certification can feel out of reach — but it doesn’t have to be.

Pathways to a college degree or trade certification establish long-term stability.

We support college & career success in three different ways:

Foster Angels provides emergency support annually to hundreds of students who experienced foster care to help with book fees, equipment, groceries, transportation, etc.

The FACT’s Scholars Program goes further with continuous support while students attend a vocational school, community college, or a four-year university.

Former foster youth can achieve success when they have adequate support through meaningful connections to as well as financial assistance. Foster Angels’ College & Career Success Program supports foster youth with expenses related to college or vocational programs to ensure they have a fair shot at success.

    Emergency assistance

FACT provides emergency assistance to hundreds of students with foster care experience to cover expenses not met by financial aid – such as books, housing, technology, and transportation.

  • Outline drawing of a person with two other people connected by lines, indicating a social or communication network.

    College or Vocational Scholarships

FACT Scholars receive regular financial support for expenses as well as a coach/mentor who checks in regularly, providing both accountability and encouragement.

    Career Mentorship

FACT offers support with career mentors, financial literacy classes, resume-building, and internship/job skills.

We have Two FACT Scholar Tracks

Foster Angels aims to help establish long-term stability by providing pathways to a college degree or trade certification.

Associate & Bachelor's Degree Track

Texas offers eligible former foster youth a free tuition waiver to any public college or university. Foster Angels provides financial support for the items tuition doesn't cover and mentorship to help guide them to graduation and entering the workforce.

Since 2018, FACT has supported over 70 students seeking a two-year or four-year degree. Our combination of financial support + mentorship has proven to be a winning formula with a 64% completion rate among FACT Scholars compared to the state’s 3% rate.

Vocational &
Trade Track

Vocational careers are in high demand both in Texas and across the nation. For many former foster youth, earning vocational credentials, degrees, and certificates leads to well-paying careers and stability.

Our Vocational Track assists former foster youth who are seeking to earn a trade or vocational certification at an accredited public or private institution. Because these programs are often shorter than one year, they are ineligible for most federal grants. Our program provides financial support as well as mentorship to give students the highest chance for success.

Support College & Career Success

When you invest in the College & Career Success Program, you're doing more than helping a student afford college or trade school — you're giving them the stability, encouragement, and belief that they can succeed. Together, we can ensure that youth who’ve faced the greatest challenges are given the greatest chances to thrive.
